It’s been a few short days since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their first child, a son, into the world, and now we finally have a name for the little one: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

The news was announced via the couple’s official Instagram @SussexRoyal, alongside an adorable shot of the Duchess showing the Queen her new grandson.

It seems that the Duke and Duchess have decided to depart from the “norm” yet again by opting for a more unique moniker — unlike his cousins, the new baby’s doesn’t come directly from the family tree.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry officially welcomed their first child, a baby boy weighing 7 pounds 3 ounces, reports Buckingham Palace. The couple is said to be doing very well.

The duchess went into labor with her and Prince Harry’s first child early Monday morning, reported several outlets, including the Daily Mail. Despite being a week overdue, the outlet got word from multiple sources that Meghan was “incredibly relaxed and positive.”

Buckingham Palace released a short statement confirming that Prince Harry was by the duchess’s side. It was previously reported by the Daily Mail that the duke of Sussex was forced to cancel part of a trip he had planned to the Netherlands this week due to rumors that the baby would be here last weekend. The couple awaited the arrival with Markle’s 62-year-old mother, Doria Ragland, who reportedly arrived last month to be with her daughter during this special time. The family is currently living at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

The royal couple decided to keep the sex of the baby a surprise, though they reportedly said they’d be “thrilled” to welcome either a boy or girl into their home.

This past Friday, a source close to the family told Entertainment Tonight that it’s been a very “love-filled time” for Meghan and Harry, and that the duchess has felt “so much compassion from her new family.”

The Daily Mail reports that photos of the baby will be revealed in the days to come. Unlike Prince William and the duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, they’ve chosen to forego the tradition of greeting the press and the public within hours of the baby’s birth.
