ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith had a furious response to his team’s shock blowout loss to the Indiana Pacers in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, as he joked that the team made him want to vomit.
Appearing on the network’s halftime report on Sunday, Smith was animated about his team’s first-half performance. The score was 69-41 at the time. Indiana ended up winning the game, 121-89.
‘If you’re [Knicks head coach] Tom Thibodeau, Stephen A., how do you manage this second half?’ ESPN’s NBA Countdown Host Malika Andrews asked the longtime basketball analyst.
‘Well, the first thing I’d do is get out of the bathroom because I just finished throwing up after watching my team play the way that they played in the first half,’ Smith replied.
‘It was absolutely, positively awful,’ he added.

The Knicks’ offensive woes endured throughout all four quarters of Sunday’s game, as one of the team’s starting forwards, OG Anunoby, was absent due to a hamstring injury. Anunoby, one of the Knick’s best starting defensive players, had been lethal offensively, too, scoring 28 points in Game 2 and 13 points in Game 1 against Indiana.
Guard Alec Burks, who came off the bench, was the the Knick’s highest scorer in Game 4 with 20 points.
New York’s star point guard Jalen Brunson had 18 points while Miles McBride added 20 points in scoring off the bench.
Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton lead his team in scoring at home in Game 4 with 20 points
Tyrese Haliburton, who was a doubt ahead of Sunday’s game, had 20 points for Indy while four other Pacers players featured in double digits too, including Pascal Siakam (14 points), T.J. McConnell (15 points), Isaiah Jackson (10 points) and Obi Toppin (14 points).
The series now tied 2-2.
Game 5 will be played at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, May 14, while Game 6 will also be played in New York, three days later.
Game 7 will take place in the Big Apple on Sunday, May 19, if necessary.
