Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, says that the late Royal would have been “the broker” in the feud between Prince Harry and King Charles – and would have expected Harry to apologise to his father

Princess Diana, who tragically passed away at the tender age of 36 when Prince Harry was just 12, would have been displeased with recent events, according to a Royal insider. Despite King Charles and Diana having been divorced for a year at the time of her death, her former butler, Paul Burrell, felt confident in asserting that Diana would have expected Harry to show respect towards his father, both then and now.

Speaking to The Sun, Mr Burrell stated: “There’s no love lost between Diana and Charles, but what was important to Diana is that both boys should have been influenced by both parents.”

He further added: “She would have made Harry apologise to Charles, and Diana would have been the broker of that – she was always the peacemaker.”

Diana’s untimely death in a car crash in 1997 left a lasting impact on Harry, who admits he never fully recovered from the loss, reports the Express. Harry, who thinks about his mother daily, feels her presence even more now that he has children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 2, as he revealed during a TODAY Show interview in 2022.

Mr Burrell shared that Diana had hoped for “the four of them to stay together” as a family unit, and it “it broke her heart when that disintegrated”. Before her passing, Diana had her sons promise to always look out for each other, a promise they were unfortunately unable to keep.

Mr Burrell began his service at Highgrove House in 1987 and worked for the Princess of Wales until her death in 1997. Diana’s confidant said that Princes William and Harry were “glued to their mother” and her word was final, adding: “Now there is nobody to sort them out. I’m afraid it’s a lost cause.”

Tensions among the royal family have become increasingly strained in recent months, following a raft of criticisms levelled against the Royal family by Prince Harry, in both his tell-all memoir Spare, and his recent Netflix documentary series with wife Meghan Markle. Even as recently as earlier this month, Harry appeared to have been snubbed by his father King Charles when it was revealed that the monarch was “too busy” to meet with him during his trip to the UK for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.
