Speaking to The Times, Kay shared that her accident led to a reevaluation of her wake-up routine.

She said: “The sitting up, taking a breath and putting all the lights on is very, very important, because last year I jumped out of bed and, next thing, I woke up covered in blood on the bathroom floor.”

Kay added: “I take medicine to lower my blood pressure and the menopause lowers it further still. Who knew? I got out of bed too quickly and just passed out in the shower.”

Later, Kay took to social media to thank her followers for their support – while also sharing some words of advice.

Sharing a picture of her badly bruised face on her Instagram story, Kay wrote: “Thanks for all your kind words after reading about my fall last year in The Times. Check your blood pressure!”

Kay’s next post on her story was a picture of the incredible work the show’s make-up artists had done to cover the bruises.

She added: “Brilliant make-up artists saved the day.”

It comes as Kay recently updated her fans about what her future holds at Sky News Breakfast, following some time off their screens.

The presenter stepped away to be with family amidst her sister’s cancer battle.

However, viewers were left concerned when she was absent just a day after returning.

Earlier this year, Kay revealed the heartbreaking news that her “baby sister”, Jacqueline, is battling cancer.

The Sky News Breakfast star’s tribute followed the news that the Princess of Wales is battling cancer.

In a poignant post, Kay wrote: “Jacqueline, who has been stoic in her determination to take on a disease that claimed both my mother and grandmother.”
