MEGHAN Markle was signalling a secret message to Kate Middleton at a recent public appearance, a fashion expert has revealed.

The Duchess of Sussex channelled springtime in a £2,776 gown during a visit to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles on March 21.

But she wasn’t just using the floral ensemble to mark the beginning of spring, the 42-year-old may have been “extending an olive branch” to sister-in-law Kate.

It comes after the Princess of Wales, 42, told the world that she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy following post-operation tests revealing cancer.

“The Royal Family are renowned for using their clothing to convey subtle messages,” fashion editor Amber Graafland tells Fabulous.

“And Meghan has learned to be adept at using her clothes to shift perspectives.

“The Duchess was clearly sending a message with her floral ensemble.”

Dressed in a floral Oscar de la Renta shirt dress with long cuffed sleeves, Meghan wore her long hair down and parted in the middle.

Meghan is keen to put events of the past few years behind her

She teamed the look with natural make-up and delicate £595 Aquazzura ankle strap flats,

Pictures from the hospital visit show her reading to a group, with the Duchess having children laughing and singing along as she got into character.

But according to Amber, she wasn’t just trying to brighten up the childrens’ days with her flowers.

“Synonymous with purity, optimism and friendship, flowers represent growth and bloom,” she says.

“And rather poignantly, flowers symbolise forgiveness.

“Could Meghan be extending an olive branch to sister in-law Kate?

“As the Duchess embarks on an exciting new chapter in her life it looks like she is keen to put past events behind her and write a new, fresh new script.

“There is no doubt that Meghan is keen to put events of the past few years behind her.”

MEGHAN’S MIGHTY RE-BRAND

Last month, the mum-of-two launched a new Instagram brand called American Riviera Orchard.

Industry insiders said the site will focus on promoting lifestyle content and selling home, food, garden and lifestyle goods – such as kitchenware.

“It’s no secret that the Duchess has been looking to re-brand herself in the lead up to the launch of her brand,” Amber explains.

“It has been reported that the Duchess has hired Hollywood stylist, Jamie Mizrahi, to help adapt her wardrobe to align with her new venture.

“Jamie has encouraged Meghan to ditch the dark colours and heavy fabrics in favour of lighter colours and more feminine materials.

“The stylist specialises in looking at the bigger picture, looking at her clients’ goals and dressing them in line with their career aspirations.”

SECOND TIMES A CHARM

Amber believes that it’s no coincidence that this is Meghan’s second time wearing the dress.

It made its first appearance during her Netflix series with her husband, Prince Harry.

“Recycling expensive dresses is a good message to send when you are about to launch a lifestyle brand,” Amber explains.

“And it’s an effective way to avoid criticism over spending large sums of money on designer items.

“Keeping her make-up simple and understated with a touch of rosy, pink blusher and a sweep of eyeliner across her eyelids, the Duchess is clearly looking forward and is optimistic about her new venture.

“The overarching message is that Meghan clearly means business.”
