BBC have confirmed their punditry line-up for this summer’s Euros with Wayne Rooney on their all-star roster whilst ITV boast the likes of Roy Keane and Gary Neville

Wayne Rooney will form part of the BBC’s punditry team for the Euros this summer.

The Manchester United legend, who has appeared on Sky Sports this year, has been out of work since leaving Birmingham midseason but will link up with some of his former England team-mates in Frank Lampard and Joe Hart by giving their own insight.

Gary Lineker will, as usual, lead the BBC’s coverage with Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, who are regular contributors, also part of the team. Rio Ferdinand and Cesc Fabregas also feature with a managerial perspective being given from Thomas Frank and David Moyes.

The BBC said in a statement: “Presenters Gary Lineker, Gabby Logan, Mark Chapman and Alex Scott will lead the coverage from the studio in the heart of Berlin with live match commentary from all 10 host cities across Germany.

“On TV commentary duties are Guy Mowbray, Robyn Cowen, Vicki Sparks, Steve Wilson, Steve Bower and Jonathan Pearce. Joining them on co-comms are Jermaine Jenas, Danny Murphy, Martin Keown and James McFadden as well as Alan Shearer, who will be in the commentary box for England’s opener against Serbia on 16 June.

“Ex-England stars Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Joe Hart, Ellen White and Frank Lampard will also join BBC regulars Micah Richards and Ashley Williams in bringing their expertise to the coverage.

“Representing Scotland will be David Moyes, Rachel Corsie and McFadden while two-time Euros winner Cesc Fabregas and Brentford boss Thomas Frank will also join the team in the studio. Reporting on the England camp throughout the tournament will be Kelly Somers, while Eilidh Barbour will be with the Scotland team.”

According to The Telegraph, one man who turned down the BBC’s approach was Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, who instead will feature on ITV’s punditry list as the usual battle for talent between the two broadcasters commenced.

They will also boast Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Ian Wright – who recently waved goodbye to BBC’s Match of the Day. The trio also regularly feature on the weekly podcast Stick to Football.

Laura Woods, as usual, will lead the ITV coverage with Ex-Lionesses Karen Carney and Eni Aluko also included in the all-star cast. Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl, who has steered the Owls clear of the drop, is a surprise name on their punditry list.
