Zach Wilson’s days with the Jets are nearing an end and that was further proven this week.

As New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers continues working his way back from a torn Achilles, former No. 2 overall draft pick Zach Wilson was given permission by the team to formally seek a trade.

Jets general manager Joe Douglas gave this update while speaking to reporters at the NFL Combine on Wednesday:

After three tumultuous seasons with the New York Jets, quarterback Zach Wilson is expected to be riding the bench for another team in 2024. For weeks, all indications were that Wilson would likely be dealt this offseason, and now Wilson’s camp is officially free to talk with all 31 other clubs.

The 24-year-old has struggled with accuracy, injury, and perceived leadership issues since his entry into the NFL.

Wilson has a 12-21 record as a starter and a career quarterback rating of 73.2. He’s thrown for 6,293 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions with a completion percentage of 57.0.

When the Jets acquired Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers last offseason, the expectation was that Wilson would spend the 2023 season learning under the four-time NFL MVP, but things changed quickly when Rodgers tore his Achilles in the season opener against the Buffalo Bills.

Wilson was thrust back into the starting lineup only for him to remind everybody why he was not the guy.

He threw for 2,271 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions and had a league-high seven lost fumbles in 12 games before he suffered a concussion in Week 15 that would ultimately end his season.
