The Seattle Seahawks have released two former multi-time Pro Bowlers ahead of free agency as the roster overhaul in the post-Pete Carroll Era begins.

Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Seahawks are releasing Pro Bowl safetyies Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs in cap-saving moves. Per Pelissero, the move will save Seattle a whopping $27.5 million.

Adams was especially expected to be released by the Seahawks heading into this offseason. Injuries limited Adams to just 34 total game appearances over his four years in Seattle, and he saw only 10 game appearances from 2022 to 2023.

His first season in Seattle was nothing short of a success. Adams tallied 9.5 sacks, setting a new single-season record for defensive backs. But the three-time Pro Bowler never tallied another sack over the next three years, and his struggles in coverage didn’t help matters whatsoever.

Diggs, whom the Seahawks acquired via trade with the Detroit Lions in 2019, turned out to be a savvy pickup for Carroll’s squad. Diggs earned three Pro Bowl nods and helped the Seahawks to four winning seasons and three playoff berths, including an NFC West division crown in 2020.

After the 2023 season, the Seahawks parted ways with Carroll and assigned him to an advisory role. Ex-Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald was named the new head coach after a two-year stint under John Harbaugh.
