Football fans are losing their minds after an NFL Draft analyst and former league scout compared a not-so-highly-touted quarterback to Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Daniel Kelly, a former NFL Scout, recently wrote a piece at FirstRoundMock.com to explain why he views South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler as a “franchise” signal-caller. Back in 2022, Kelly even wrote that Rattler was “the next Patrick Mahomes.”

Kelly’s bold comparison, as you would guess, caused quite the stir on social media:

It’s definitely bold to compare Rattler to the best football player on the planet, but you also never know when a franchise-changing signal-caller will come aboard.

Remember, Mahomes was considered a boom-or-bust prospect when the Chiefs drafted him back in 2017, and not a sure-thing to succeed. And of course, Tom Brady of all people was a sixth-round draft choice in 2000.

Rattler has a compelling skill set to succeed, but the odds of him (and just about anybody else, for that matter) becoming as good as Mahomes are awfully low.
