King Charles ‘did not appreciate’ his son Prince Harry’s televised interview with Good Morning America in the wake of his cancer diagnosis announcement and would want privacy if they meet

King Charles “did not appreciate” Prince Harry’s televised interview with Good Morning America earlier this year, and would want privacy should they meet in the future, an expert has claimed.

In February, while in Canada for the One Year To Go celebrations of the Invictus Games 2025, Prince Harry opened up about his family and career in an unexpected interview with Good Morning America. While chatting to the GMA journalist, Harry even spoke of his father’s cancer diagnosis.

Speaking about how he flew to the UK to see his father after his cancer diagnosis was announced, Harry said: “I love my family. The fact I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend anytime with him? I’m grateful to that.”

But now an expert has said that it is likely that the King did not appreciate his son’s interview on Good Morning America. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, royal expert and commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said that it is “probable the King did not appreciate Harry’s interview on Good Morning America, after they met in February, when he learnt of his father’s diagnosis and when he talked of family unity”.

He went on to reveal: “If Harry would come to Britain privately, arranging a meeting beforehand, I am sure his father would see him.”

Mr Fitzwilliam’s comments came after the Duke of Sussex flew back to the UK last week for a brief trip to the capital city. Before he flew in from the States, rumours were rife that he could possibly meet with his father.

After he landed back in England earlier this month, a spokesperson for the Duke said: “It, unfortunately, will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme. The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

And over the weekend Mr Fitzwilliams told us that “the depth of the rift with the Royal Family has, if anything, deepened after Harry’s recent visit”. He went on to touch on the “utterly bizarre subsequent controversy over whether his father was too busy to meet him which is extremely unhelpful as he needs to project a positive image”, and then offered some advice on how the Sussexes can “thrive” going forward.

“If they are to thrive and not just survive they must avoid offending the Royal Family, their attacks have cost both them and the royals popularity and made them appear extremely destructive and also hypocritical over the issue of privacy,” he added.
