The Raiders will be eyeing quarterback prospects in the upcoming draft, but they might not wait for a signal-caller to fall to No. 13.
The Raiders finally decided to remove the “interim” suffix from Antonio Pierce’s job title and give him the head coaching job, now they might have to make a huge move to secure a star quarterback for the future.
The Raiders could be trade suitors for a top-three pick but it won’t be cheap.
Ryan Fowler of Bleacher Report pitched a trade proposal that would have the Raiders send the No. 13 overall selection, a 2024 second-round pick (No. 44 overall), a 2025 first-round pick, and a 2026 second-round pick to the New England Patriots in exchange for the No. 3 pick where the Raiders would then select LSU’s Jayden Daniels.
“The details of this deal do not include two future first-round selections, but making a move into the top five for a potential shot at Daniels will cost Las Vegas a pretty penny,” Fowler wrote in a February 8 column.
“However, if head coach Antonio Pierce wants to build the Raiders from the ground up, drafting his face of the franchise could be a great message to Las Vegas fans that he’s not wasting any time.”
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has previously reported that head coach Antonio Pierce is a “big fan” of Jayden Daniels.
Regardless of how things unfold during the draft, it’s likely that the Raiders will be eyeing a new signal-caller in 2024.
Jimmy Garoppolo barely played once Pierce was named the interim head coach, and the veteran will likely be a trade/cut candidate. This comes off Garoppolo signing a three-year, $67.5 million deal to join the Raiders last offseason to replace Derek Carr.
The 31-year-old had spent the last six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.
While rookie Aidan O’Connell was a standout during the final chunk of the season, it sounds like the Raiders envision him as more of a backup.
