Laura Anderson has revealed that before landing a role on Capital FM, she had secretly been preparing for the job for over a year but the timing had never been right

Laura Anderson has opened up about life behind the scenes at Capital FM and says she worked hard to land the gig.

The former Love Island presenter was recently announced as the new Capital Breakfast Scotland presenter alongside Fat Brestovci. But while some social media users criticise people landing such gigs without experience, Laura revealed she had been secretly preparing for over a year.

Laura, 34, struggled to contain her joy as she opened up about the new job which will see her broadcasting across Scotland weekdays from 6am til 10am. Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, she said: “I’m so excited.

“I’ve wanted to work in radio for a while and sort of been doing some preparation behind the scenes, some demos. Even last year when I was pregnant, I had been coming in and meeting everyone so when the opportunity came about, I was just like ‘Yeah, why not, this is huge’, to get the Breakfast Show is the biggest and longest show, it’s right in at the deep end.”

Laura explained that she felt “complimented” that bosses at Global had trusted her with the role and despite being nervous, she was given the job for a “reason”. Although it means a very early alarm clock, Laura admits this is no issue as she will be able to go home and spend the day with her daughter Bonnie.

Last year she met with bosses at the studio but there wasn’t a position available, with social media star Talia Storm previously sitting in the hot seat. Despite her preparation, she said that she has been trying to pick up how radio presenters work between each link and “learning a new skill”.

But addressing criticism some face for landing similar jobs, Laura added: “Some people are naturally gifted, if you’ve been taken on by big bosses, it’s their responsibility to make you work hard. For me, I like to be very prepared, fail to prepare, fail to prepare, everything I’ve ever done, I like to read up on everything that’s going on. Some people are better off the cuff, some people don’t need that practice. For me, to be confident, I wouldn’t want to flop just because I was too lazy to prep myself.

“For me, it just works to have taken my time and really thought about how I’m going to do things but each to their own.” Although she may be used to being interviewed, Laura revealed that she interviewed a “huge celebrity” last week – her first interview with her asking the questions and she was “so nervous” and questioned why bosses had dealt her this task. “It’s exciting to push yourself with work,” she added.
