It appears New York Jets’ owner Woody Johnson is not fond of Zach Wilson.

Head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas will return in 2024, New York Jets owner Woody Johnson confirmed last month.

This month, he is confirming that Zach Wilson will not be on the team.

Johnson at the NFL Honors savagely stated, “[The Jets] need a backup QB. We didn’t have one last year.”

Ouch.

Since being drafted second overall by the New York Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft, QB Zach Wilson has been a major disappointment for the franchise. After Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 1, Wilson was thrust back into the starting lineup to prove himself to the organization in 2023, but his performance wasn’t any better than the previous two seasons.

The New York Jets are expected to part ways with Zach Wilson, and anonymous coaches and executives were brutally honest about his trade value.

Wilson will be just 25 years old by the start of next season, but it doesn’t appear that he has much trade value. It isn’t too shocking since he has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns through three seasons and has never had a QBR higher than 38.5.
“I’d give up a two-week stay at a Best Western. I’m not a fan,” one anonymous coach stated.

If there is no trade interest in Wilson, the Jets would be left with no choice but to release him. Should that happen, he will become the first quarterback to be drafted in the top 10 and released by his original team since Robert Griffin III.
