It’s been public knowledge for quite some time that former Minnesota Vikings superstar running back Adrian Peterson has been in serious financial trouble for years which is why he held on so long towards the end of his career to play for any team who would sign him.
This week, there seemed to be more confirmation that Peterson is in serious financial trouble as reports stated he was selling off many different personal items, including his MVP trophy, Rookie of the Year trophy, Offensive Player of the Year trophy, and much more.
Word spread quickly Wednesday about an auction involving dozens of Adrian Peterson’s belongings, but apparently, that was new news to the man himself.
Peterson would take to social media and release a video stating he’d take legal action after some of his prized possessions were included without his permission.
“An estate sale company, without my authorization, included some of my trophies in the sale despite my clear instructions to leave personal items untouched,” Peterson said Wednesday evening.
“I did not authorize the sale of any of my trophies and I will be taking legal action. Trusting this company without supervision was my mistake.”
“We allowed them to go into several of our storage units with clear instructions. They clearly did something unlawful. I want to emphasize that I am financially stable and will never sell off my hard-earned trophies.”
Peterson won the Rookie of the Year award in 2007 with the Minnesota Vikings when he rushed for 1,341 yards and contributed 12 rushing touchdowns.
Peterson played 15 seasons for 7 teams, including the Vikings and Redskins. He had 3,230 carries for 14,918 yards, 305 catches for 2,474 yards, and scored 126 touchdowns. He was selected to play in 7 Pro Bowls.
As recently as last year, he made it clear he has not officially retired from the NFL.
“Mentally, I haven’t officially hung it up,” Peterson told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Clarence Hill. “We’ll see what happens. My mindset is, if God’s willing, maybe an opportunity presents itself, and maybe it happens this season. I’ll go from there. But (if) nothing happens this season, for sure, I will be hanging it up.”
Peterson played sparingly during his last year for the Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks in 2021. He has also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans Saints, the now-Washington Commanders, and the Detroit Lions since he finished his 10-year career with the Minnesota Vikings.
He ranks fifth in all-time rushing yards and fourth in rushing touchdowns.
