People close to Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid have revealed what they expect his decision to be after Super Bowl 58.

Rumors regarding Reid’s future in the NFL have been ongoing for a while, even though the 65-year-old hasn’t offered any hints that he’s planning to retire. Nonetheless, many can’t help but wonder if Reid will be ready to walk away if his Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58.

 

But ahead of the big game, ESPN’s Adam Teicher spoke to numerous sources close to Reid. Those in Reid’s circle ultimately expect the future Hall of Famer to return in 2024, including general manager Brett Veach:
“He’s in a good place, not just with Pat but with his coaching staff and with the personnel staff. This is the setup he’s always wanted. I think he has a lot of football coaching ahead of him, and I can see him coaching for the foreseeable future here. I think he’s got a good chunk of time left.”
Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub also fully expects the two-time Super Bowl-winning head coach to return in 2024.

“[Football] is his hobby,” Toub said. “This is all he does. I’m trying to get Andy to play golf. I’m trying to get him to go hunting. He just won’t do it.”

“He loves football so much,” quarterback Patrick Mahomes said. “Even in the offseason, he’ll text me, ask me questions, do I like this play or do I like that play? He loves being around the game and being able to enjoy it. We’re having so much fun. It’s not so much the winning. We legit have so much fun at the building that I think it would be hard for him to walk.”

Reid has absolutely nothing left to prove. He already has two championship rings as a head coach and will be inducted into Canton in his first year of eligibility. In the 21st century, only Bill Belichick has had a more successful NFL head coaching career than Reid.

Regardless of what Reid’s decision is, we’re not going to hear the final call until some time after Super Bowl 58. So stay tuned.
