The Chicago Bears have already decided how they’re going to handle their Justin Fields quandary, according to a team insider.

The Bears have a coveted starting quarterback on their roster and also hold the No. 1 overall pick for the upcoming NFL Draft, which is also being pursued. They have the option of trading said pick and continuing to build around Fields, while starting afresh with Caleb Williams is also thought to be a viable choice.

According to the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs, the team isn’t mulling over whether to continue with Fields or to select Williams as they have already decided to move on from the former and now just need to decide which quarterback to draft.
“From my perspective, there is no internal debate in which the Bears are kicking around the idea of keeping Justin Fields versus drafting a quarterback,” he wrote. “I believe the work being done is to determine which quarterback they should select. So the whole Fields versus Caleb Williams debate is a pointless exercise.”

If this happens to be the case, Chicago might not be sold on Williams.

Who could blame them? The incoming quarterback class is pretty stacked, with the likes of Drake Maye, Michael Penix Jr., Jayden Daniels, and J.J. McCarthy all available.

They’re also likely to land a top pick in exchange for Fields, who is still considered a solid QB despite his struggles with the team, which would leave them with a clear path to two of the best players in the draft.
