An interesting NFC team has reportedly “inquired about” Kansas City Chiefs superstar cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.

According to a report from Tyler Dragon of USA Today, the Minnesota Vikings are among the teams that have spoken to the Chiefs about a possible trade for the two-time Super Bowl champion.

Dragon reports that the Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans are also among the teams interested in the 27-year-old:

“As expected, the Kansas City Chiefs officially placed the franchise tag on cornerback L’Jarius Sneed. Sneed still has permission to seek a trade despite the designation. A person with direct knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports that the Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars have expressed interest in the Chiefs corner. The person told USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.”

The Chiefs placed the franchise tag on Sneed, thus assuring that he can’t hit the free agent market that opens up next Wednesday (March 13) at 4:00 p.m. EST. Even if they don’t end up keeping Sneed, the Chiefs are at least set to receive valuable compensation via trade.

The Chiefs would obviously love to retain Sneed, a vital part of their last two Super Bowl-winning teams. But Kansas City is up against the salary cap, and they have to try and make room to retain All-Pro defensive back Chris Jones.

Sneed is coming off perhaps the best regular season of his career, having tallied two interceptions, four pass defenses and one fumble recovery. He also didn’t allow a single touchdown in coverage during the regular season.

For his career, Sneed has 10 interceptions, 40 pass defenses, four forced fumbles and 6.5 sacks in 57 regular season games. In the postseason, he has one interception, seven pass defenses and a pair of sacks.
