A surprising update has emerged on the Dallas Cowboys-Dak Prescott contract extension front.

In the 2021 offseason, Prescott signed a four-year contract extension with the Cowboys worth $160 million. The 30-year-old responded to the new deal by leading Dallas to three straight 12-win seasons and playoff appearances, though the Cowboys have just one playoff victory in that span.

Speaking on Saturday’s edition of “SportsCenter” (h/t Adam Wells of Bleacher Report), ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Cowboys and Prescott have yet to hold any meaningful discussions on a new deal:
“I was told that Dallas and Dak Prescott’s reps have not had any substantial talks. They have not discussed numbers, they could certainly meet at the NFL combine next week though to at least get started to see where each side is at.”

Many fans and pundits have called for Dallas to make a change at quarterback given Prescott’s lack of postseason success (2-5). But as we saw with Tony Romo, Jason Garrett, and now both Prescott and Mike McCarthy, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones doesn’t like to make significant changes as long as they remain competitive in the regular season.

So when all is said and done, Prescott should enter 2024 with a shiny contract extension.
