A blockbuster trade proposal from a former NFL general manager has the Buffalo Bills dealing superstar wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a young NFC team in exchange for a stud defensive player.

During a recent episode of ESPN’s “Get Up” television program, former New York Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum proposed a trade idea that would see the Bills trading Diggs to the Chicago Bears in exchange for cornerback Tyrique Stevenson:

Diggs has been the subject of trade rumors since the Bills’ 2022 AFC Divisional Round playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. He openly expressed his frustration with quarterback Josh Allen that game, and Diggs was also absent from the club’s first mandatory minicamp session last year.

Diggs had another quiet playoff outing in the Bills’ 2023 Divisional Round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, further leading to calls for Buffalo to trade its top offensive weapon.

For the Bears, this trade would give them a top-tier receiving tandem of Diggs and D.J. Moore. Whether it’s Justin Fields or Caleb Williams at quarterback in 2024, Chicago’s passing game would be in good hands with two superstar pass-catchers.

If you’re Buffalo, trading Diggs would clear up a massive total of $19 million in cap space. That would allow the team to fill other needs with the extra cash. Buffalo could also use additional help in the secondary, especially if they don’t end up retaining stars Micah Hyde (a pending free agent) and Tre’Davious White (a strong candidate to be cut).

Stevenson had a superb rookie year for the Bears, tallying four interceptions and 16 pass breakups. He would instantly improve the Bills’ ageing secondary while giving GM Brandon Beane more cap space to find a cheap Diggs replacement.
